GPBC Faded1
Historical Minutes

Towards the end of the 2010 season, the club came into the possession of the original club minutes from 1947 to 1965. As these obviously have a lot of historical value, they have been summarised so that everyone can have the opportunity to reflect how the club got started, the initial struggle for survival, the ups and downs of the members bowling prowess along with probably long forgotten facts such as, between these years, the club won the Cleveland League 5 times.

See how the club moved from a “tennis shed” as its pavilion into the present building, read about how male members were only asked to pay 10/6d to bowl whereby ladies were called upon to pay 17/6d. Would they get away with this now?

Other interesting topics include how the green was maintained in the early days, the acquisition of the first grass cutter & the falling out with the Cricket Club Chairman after the club prevented him from using the new Atco cutter by chaining it up, and look for “Charlies Square”, a section of green which is dedicated to the efforts of a member long gone & it’s location faded in the mist of time. Some major items of interest have been highlighted in red throughout the document.

Below are some of the members and officials that you will read about. The quality of some of these are a little poor but it suitably puts a face to a name. You can Click Here to read the minutes & I hope you find them interesting.
