Well that’s the last we’ll see of the old garage door with it’s super strong 3 locks, cumbersome lift & shoulder charge opening mechanism and the wire loop which stopped it crashing down on the back of your head. It has been replaced today by the Rolls Royce of garage doors especially imported from Germany which has a single, central lock, operating a high level security latching mechanism. Once the key is turned, this door virtually opens itself.

Our new fleet of pushers are now available to use. They were delivered by Boston Bowls when they came for their road show on Monday 16th May & they have been put together today & stored in the equipment shed. Shown below are the before & after pics. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge.

All of the above come courtesy of the Tees Valley Community Foundation who funded both projects.

The garage door project has ensured that the green keeper can continue to carry out his work efficiently & maintain the bowling green in the condition required for bowling. As the green is the main asset of the club, allowing it to fall into a state of bad condition could have resulted in the loss of membership and have been detrimental to the aims of the Active 60 programme.

The bowls gatherers project means that members are now not susceptible to foot injuries due to having to kick their bowls to the end of the rink. There are now sufficient bowls gatherers to compliment all 6 rinks.

The purpose of the fund was to encourage more people to participate in a healthy lifestyle and a more active social lifestyle. The measures put in place as a result of this fund have increased the club membership this year by 8% with a further 5 probable new members for 2012, a potential total increase of 14% overall.

A dull day couldn’t put a dampener on the annual Captain V Chairmans match. Although it was a hard fought battle, Dave Pickard’s Captains team narrowly took the honours from John Atkinson’s Chairmans team. The real winners of course, were those hardy few taking part.

The club has been successful in getting approval for a grant in order that we can refurbish the club toilets. This work will take place during the early part of June 2011 and will take approximately 2 weeks to complete. During the renovation works, portaloos will be provided on site.

This project has been made possible by the generosity of the Tees Valley Community Foundation and its donors.

Sunday 24/4/2011 Mary Morgans Day

The green will open on SATURDAY 16th APRIL as planned. There are some restrictions to play due to the damage caused during the winter months which is taking some time to heal. Notices have been posted in the clubhouse and around the green explaining the restrictions. Click HERE to view.

The club is arranging to purchase 8 new bowls pushers which will be delivered from Boston Bowls on 16th May when they come to carry out their Road Show. An order has also been placed for a new garage door which will be fitted shortly to replace the old cumbersome door currently fitted, before someone gets injured operating it.

We have applied for a grant in order to renovate the toilets area which, hopefully we will be hearing about shortly. More on this when we find out whether we have been successful.

The first GLASSES is scheduled to take place on SUNDAY 17th APRIL. This will be followed on SUNDAY 24th APRIL by the MARY MORGANS competition.

Competition entry sheets and Friendly competition entry sheets are now posted on the club notice boards, so don’t be late in entering them.
